Alvin's Land of Shichon Teddy Bears

Puppy Food

It is important for puppies to continue to get their mother's milk until 7-8 weeks of age.  However, at 4-7 weeks of age (depending on the puppies) a puppy can handle some watered down puppy food to supplement a mother's milk.  The process of weaning a puppy from the mother's milk needs to be gradual.  At Alvin's Land of Shichon Teddy Bears, we want the best for our babies.  Therefore, we give them very little puppy food to begin with to help reduce trauma or later health issues to the puppy.

Once a puppy is beginning dog food, we will put our puppies on IAMs Puppy food.  In fact, all of our dogs eat IAMs.  However, if you don't want to choose Purina One, we recommend any puppy food that has chicken as the first ingredient.  The first ingredient listed is the one that is most present in the food.  Research shows that dogs are healthier with this as the main ingredient.

There are a lot of recipes available for making puppy/dog food and treats.  Be careful that the ones you choose have  some sort of meat, preferably chicken, as their first ingredient.

Why Shichons are the Best Dogs Ever

Shichons or Teddy Bear puppies are a mix between a Shih-Tzu and a Bichon Frise, basically taking the best parts from each of these two breeds.

Teddy Bears do not shed and are hypoallergenic.

Teddy Bears puppies are loving, easily trained, and playful.

Shichon Teddy Bear Pups are wonderful with the elderly and children.

Shichons are wonderful pets for young children.  While other dogs would become aggressive with children when children become a little rough with them, the shichon will be very patient and loving to a child.
Our Shichon Teddy Bear puppies will usually grow to be 5-15 pounds making them the perfect weight to sit in your lap and have around as an amazing companion.
We use crates to help them while we are gone or at night.  We also use treats to reward appropriate behavior.  We have trained our puppies to go to their crates or cages by saying “go to your cage”.  They willingly go in there without having to be held or put in there.
